Introduction to GIS course
On 17 and 24 September and 1 October, the EES is hosting an online Geographic Information Systems course for Egyptologists. In three 1.5 hour sessions, Dr. Hannah Pethen will hone our skills in open-source GIS software QGIS.
By the end of the course, participants will understand the principles behind GIS; how GIS look and work; how to load, style, label, select and export existing vector and raster data; how to import, georeference and compare relevant raster sources; and how to edit, create, merge and query vector shapefiles.

Scanning the pyramids
After last year’s 3D laser scanning survey of the south side of the Great Pyramid, AERA returned to the field in the spring to survey the pyramid’s north, east, and west sides. Working with scholars from Aarhus University and Museum Vest, they have now captured a high-resolution record of the entire monumental structure and its surrounding court.
The results will be published in the upcoming AERAgram newsletter. We look forward to seeing the results! Could this disprove the conspiracy theorists once and for all? 🤔
