In Memoriam: Krisztián Vértes

Egyptologist and artist Krisztián Vértes (1976–2025) almost single-handedly developed the field of Digital Epigraphy for Egyptology, building upon the classic ‘Chicago House’ method. He published about it in open access through his books (Digital Epigraphy, two editions) and website digital-epigraphy.com.

On that website you can read a commemoration of his work and person. I have never had the pleasure of meeting Krisztián but he kindly answered my emails and shared his insight. For the Hetepherakhty project I use a variation of his method.

We are losing too many great Egyptologists lately (and too young), so let’s celebrate their work!
